The Government's sub-delegate in Jaén, Manuel Fernández, alongside the mayor of Escañuela, Ana María Fernández, announced that the town will receive over 5.87 million euros from the Spanish Government. These funds will be used for the recovery of damages caused by the floods earlier this year, the repair of municipal infrastructure and rural roads, and support for the local agricultural sector.
The total investment of 5,876,387.41 euros is broken down into 4,626,667.58 euros for the City Council, intended for 20 actions to repair, restore, and improve municipal infrastructure and equipment. Additionally, 767,500 euros are allocated for the recovery of rural roads, and 482,219.83 euros in two payments to the agricultural sector.
Manuel Fernández highlighted that this investment represents a "comprehensive response to the consequences of the storms," addressing damage to public spaces, supporting the agricultural sector, and restoring essential rural infrastructure for the local economy.
The municipal actions, 100% financed by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, are part of Royal Decree-Law 5/2026. The 20 interventions will repair streets, sports facilities, public buildings, and other infrastructure affected by the floods on January 27th. The largest investment will be in Calle Nueva, with an estimated 948,000 euros, aiming to enhance safety and resilience against future heavy rainfall.
The Municipal Sports Complex will receive 1,386,309.60 euros for six projects, including the football field (526,414.85 euros), swimming pools (229,194.75 euros), paddle tennis court (74,200 euros), tennis court (133,000 euros), changing room building (202,800 euros), and the complex's bar/terrace (202,800 euros). These works aim to restore essential facilities for sports, leisure, and community life in improved safety and usability conditions.
The repairs will also extend to streets such as Calle Egido Torrecillas, Calle Federico García Lorca, Calle Andrés Bueno Rodríguez, Plaza de Abastos, Pasaje San Pedro, and Plaza del Pilar, in addition to the intervention on Calle Nueva. The plan also includes works on the Town Hall building, the Municipal Sports Pavilion, the roofs of the Municipal Cemetery, the school, the municipal warehouse, the old agricultural chamber, and the Social Center.
Regarding the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food has made payments totaling 482,219.83 euros to 66 agricultural farm holders affected by the storms, providing direct support to ensure the continuity of this vital economic activity.
The province of Jaén leads Andalucía in receiving these aid funds, reflecting the scale of the damage and the economic effort made. Rural roads will benefit from 767,500 euros to repair access routes essential for farmers and improve mobility and safety in rural areas.
These actions in Escañuela are part of a package exceeding 400 million euros from the Spanish Government for 94 municipalities in the province of Jaén, making it the province receiving the largest volume of resources for local entities under the Royal Decree-Law for storm aid.
