The municipality of Arjona is in deep shock following the premature death of Josefa Martín Latorre, popularly known as Pepa. At 69 years old, Pepa was described by her neighbors as a true 'whirlwind,' a woman full of vitality and joy who actively participated in the social and cultural life of the town.
Her tragic death occurred in a traffic accident at the crossroads between Arjona and Lahiguera. According to sources close to the situation, Pepa was on her way to rescue an animal in distress, an act that reflects her deep love and commitment to defenseless beings.
“"She was pure heart, we had no words to express it"
Her commitment to the local associative fabric was exemplary. She was a member of the Association Against Cancer, participated in the Brotherhood of the Virgen de la Cabeza, collaborated in religious brotherhoods and festivities like San Isidro, and was an active member of the Nocturnal Adoration. Her generosity extended to her work with the animal protector Patitas Cansadas, where she dedicated hours to caring for abandoned animals, even building shelters to protect them from the cold.
Pepa's funeral became an unprecedented demonstration of grief in Arjona, with the church overflowing with family, friends, and neighbors who wanted to bid her farewell. Her daughters, though heartbroken, find solace in the immense memory their mother leaves behind in the municipality, a legacy of joy and an indelible mark.
