Sport became a vehicle for meeting, coexistence, and social inclusion in Andújar this Sunday with the celebration of the I «Roots with Pride» Diverse Olympics. The event, organized by the Department of Welfare, Families, and Social Inclusion of the Andújar City Council in collaboration with the Raíces Sports Club, gathered 60 participants with the aim of fostering values such as equality, respect, tolerance, and non-discrimination.
Manuel Mezquita, councilor for Welfare, Families, and Social Inclusion, highlighted that this pioneering initiative seeks to promote equal opportunities and social inclusion through an activity open to all citizens. He emphasized the importance of creating spaces that positively and accessibly showcase LGTBIQ+ diversity and thanked the sports club and all those involved for their collaboration.
Participants, divided into teams, competed in adapted sports events catering to various levels, including medicine ball throws, hurdle races, long jumps, 800-meter runs, and relays. The day combined physical activity with moments of community building, facilitating interaction and reinforcing messages of respect for diversity.
“"This activity managed to combine sport, inclusion, and coexistence in a single day."
The Raíces Sports Club highly valued the first edition, emphasizing the collaboration of the Andújar City Council and the involvement of participants, volunteers, and collaborators. The awards ceremony concluded a morning marked by camaraderie and the celebration of diversity, establishing the initiative as a benchmark in Andújar's Pride programming.
