The training, held at Virgilio Castilla Carmona Park, aims to provide basic self-protection tools for women to use in case of potential aggression. All attendees received a keychain alarm as a deterrent measure in risky situations.
This initiative, which has had previous smaller-scale editions with great reception, is part of the council's commitment to prevention and women's safety in the city. The mayor, Loli Cañavate, emphasized that Armilla is and will remain a safe city, and these workshops aim to offer resources for women to enjoy public spaces with freedom and tranquility.
The mayor added that the high participation demonstrates the interest in this type of training and reaffirmed that the responsibility for an assault should never fall on women. For her part, the Equality councilor, Manuela Bertos, stated that workshops will continue to be organized at different times to increase access to this training.
These actions are part of a broader protection plan for women in the city. Recently, the Municipal Equality Council reported on measures for the upcoming San Miguel Fiestas, including violet patrols and points, Sentinel bracelets, safe cup covers, and a free safe taxi service for women. These safety initiatives during the festivities earned the Armilla City Council a national recognition last year.
