With the imminent celebration of the Virgen de la Cabeza Pilgrimage, the town of Andújar is preparing for a significant transformation in its traffic scheme. The special mobility plan, activated by the local council, aims to ensure safety and smooth flow in areas with high concentrations of people, which entails the application of strict restrictions impacting both drivers and hospitality businesses.
Starting this afternoon, the city's urban center will be largely closed to vehicular traffic, beginning with the Zona Centro and access to Plaza Sol. This measure will remain in effect until Saturday, May 25. Over the next few days, other areas will progressively be added to these restrictions: Plaza Vieja from Thursday, and the surroundings of the Roman Bridge and the Fairgrounds from Friday. Access to these areas will be strictly limited to residents and for loading and unloading tasks during specific hours.
To facilitate accessibility, reserved parking spaces for people with reduced mobility have been provided on Hoyo Street and Avenida de Andalucía. Additionally, provisional taxi stands have been set up at key points such as Plaza Vieja and the fire station roundabout, especially during the main days of the pilgrimage.
“"The main objective is to guarantee safety and fluidity in the areas of greatest influx, which implies severe restrictions affecting both drivers and hospitality entrepreneurs."
Regulations regarding the occupation of public spaces have also been tightened to ensure the passage of pilgrims and public safety. The City Council has reminded that, while the installation of tables and chairs is permitted, their use is strictly prohibited in the arcades of Plaza España, in areas open to traffic, and in private spaces without proper authorization. The local authority calls for citizen cooperation to respect these guidelines and enjoy a celebration without incidents.
