The competition will feature three modalities: a 50-kilometer climb, a relay option (25 km plus 25 km), and the mini climb, with an uphill route of nearly 11 kilometers. As a novelty, the competitive categories have been expanded to recognize a greater number of athletes, although the greatest reward remains crossing the finish line and receiving the finisher's medal.
The general start for the main race will be at the Paseo del Salón at 7:00 AM, while the mini climb will commence at the Hoya de la Mora barrier around 10:00 AM.
This event, now in its 42nd edition, is sustained by the efforts of Enrique Carmona and the Club Atletismo Maracena, with support from various institutions and small local businesses, and without the backing of large corporations. Carmona emphasized that the primary goal is for the race not to incur costs for the club and for the athletes to always be the priority, treated with the utmost care.
The race director highlighted the technical challenges of passing through multiple municipalities, coexisting with traffic, and traversing a Natural Park and a National Park with restrictive regulations. He described the Veleta Peak Climb as an international benchmark, which this year reaches the maximum permitted 800 athletes.
Carmona also mentioned the main favorites for the overall victory, including Ignacio Morón, José Antonio Cazorla, Juanjo Vidal Osorio, Eloy Trigo, Guillermo Ramos, Raúl Gómez Calderón, and Rubén Álvarez de Sevilla in the men's category. In the women's category, he highlighted Ana Cánovas, Kristina Kucas, and Alejandra Sánchez Massa.
