Organized by the Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences on the Puerto Real Campus, the event combines scientific dissemination, training, and participation. It brings together researchers, students, and professionals to address crucial topics such as climate change, pollution, and marine ecosystem management.
The first day of SOMA 2026 focused on the impact of climate change, acidification, and microplastic pollution in the Gulf of Cádiz. During this session, students presented their work and had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the scientific work carried out at the University of Cádiz, including visits to the laboratories of the University Institute of Marine Research (INMAR) and the planetarium.
The program will continue in the coming days with public sessions exploring various perspectives of the marine and environmental world. These include conferences on Spain's role in nautical and marine sciences, dissemination within Biosphere Reserves, and the impact of plastic pollution in the land-ocean continuum. Additionally, complementary activities such as exhibitions and guided tours of the institution's scientific facilities will be offered.
The Oceans and Environment Week is thus consolidated as a meeting point between the university community and society, highlighting the research capacity of the University of Cádiz and its commitment to transferring knowledge in key areas for environmental sustainability.
