The incident, which occurred at kilometer 74 of the road, forced traffic to be diverted to the Nacional IV from kilometer 53. Circulation was severely affected, including the stretch between Lebrija and El Cuervo, until it was restored around 9:15 PM.
The enormous column of smoke generated by the fire, visible for several kilometers, caused alarm among drivers. According to sources, many chose to turn around and drive in the opposite direction to get away from the area, worsening the congestion.
Emergency and firefighting services worked to control the flames, which are suspected to have started in the dry roadside vegetation. High temperatures, dry vegetation, and wind are factors that favor the spread of fires in this area during the summer.
