Honduras Street, a key thoroughfare in the historic center's bypass in Cádiz, has been closed to traffic for a week, plunging the area into an unusual silence. Despite the traffic disruption, there is no trace of the construction work that prompted the closure: no machinery, no trenches, and no personnel working, leading it to be dubbed a “ghost project.”
This situation has created significant difficulties for the City Council since last Wednesday, the day the street closure began. Initially, the traffic plan did not include any alternatives, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. Subsequently, a solution was announced, which in turn met opposition from the educational community of Celestino Mutis school, successfully diverting traffic through an alternative route during the mornings.
“"These are works by Aguas de Cádiz to "modernize the comprehensive water cycle management through the use of new technologies."
The project, as reported by the City Council at the time, aims to digitize the discharge point of the collector in the San Carlos area. This involves remodeling an existing manhole and installing a control station equipped with advanced sensors to monitor water levels and quality in real-time, measuring parameters such as pH, conductivity, and turbidity. However, the lack of activity on Honduras Street contrasts sharply with the announced scope of the works.
