The exhibition, titled José Manuel Caballero Bonald. The Adventure of Writing, is presented in the courtyard of the Humanities Library at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. This event is one of the pillars of the University Book Week program and is part of the commemoration of the author's birth centenary, reinforcing the importance of his legacy in this edition.
During the inauguration ceremony, the general director of Culture at the University of Cádiz, Ester Trigo, highlighted the relevance of dedicating this exhibition to Caballero Bonald, given his deep connection with the institution and his impact on contemporary literature. She also emphasized the value of all the activities organized for this week, pointing to the exhibition as one of the most significant proposals.
The president of the Caballero Bonald Foundation and one of the author's daughters, expressed gratitude for the UCA's involvement in organizing these activities and satisfaction with the notable presence of young attendees, an aspect that, in her words, would have been particularly meaningful to her father. The management of the Caballero Bonald Foundation also expressed its pleasure with the exhibition, recalling the author's relationship with the institution since his nautical studies.
The exhibition's curator, a university professor, stressed the importance of collaborative work between the library and archive staff of the University, highlighting that the exhibition is the result of sustained joint effort. The exhibition is structured into 15 explanatory panels that chronologically trace Caballero Bonald's life and work, offering an accessible and rigorous overview of his vital and literary trajectory.
In addition to the panels, the exhibition includes a selection of bibliographic materials from the University of Cádiz, organized by genres such as poetry, narrative, essay, and critical studies. It is complemented by valuable documentary materials, such as original manuscripts and correspondence with prominent literary figures. A special section is dedicated to the author's formative period, including notes from his nautical studies and a letter addressed to the institution, with materials provided by the Caballero Bonald Foundation, the Andalusian Center of Letters, and the University of Cádiz itself.
