The closing gala of the twenty-fifth Andalusia International Fashion Week (SIMA 41), held last Wednesday, June 10th, at the Omnium Auditorium in Seville, recognized the talent from the province of Cádiz. The Delegate of the Junta Government in the province, Mercedes Colombo, congratulated the awardees during the ceremony for the seventh edition of the Andalusian Fashion Awards.
Among the honorees were the designer from Ubrique, Antonio del Canto, who received the 'La Piel de Ubrique' Revelation Designer Award, and the Luis Gonzalo Artistic-Scientific Cultural Center, located in Cádiz capital, awarded the Made in Andalusia Craftsmanship Award.
“"Fashion and craftsmanship are a fundamental part of our cultural heritage, being an artistic discipline that combines design, creativity, and highly specialized know-how, especially in a province like ours."
Colombo highlighted the importance of this strategic sector, which generates 667 million euros annually in Andalusia, emphasizing Ubrique as one of its leading exponents in the leather goods sector. She also underscored the support for citizen initiatives that collectively enrich the material and immaterial heritage of our municipalities, making culture a transversal tool for social transformation, identity, and progress.
The awards ceremony was attended by the mayor of Ubrique, Mario Casillas, who presented the award to Antonio del Canto. Additionally, the Director General of Commerce of the Ministry of Employment, Cecilia Ortiz Carrasco, presented the award to Belén González García-Negrotto, representing the Luis Gonzalo Artistic-Scientific Cultural Center.
Antonio del Canto, a young designer from Ubrique, was selected last year to debut his collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid, recognized for his conceptual, artistic, and sustainable approach. The Luis Gonzalo Artistic-Scientific Cultural Center, founded on the family's initiative, houses the legacy of the painter Luis Gonzalo González and operates as a multidisciplinary space for training, cultural dissemination, art gallery, and restoration workshop.
