The number two candidate for the PP of Cádiz in the Andalusian Parliament emphasized her party's commitment to the rural areas of Cádiz, highlighting that their defense and support are a priority for the regional government. This statement comes ahead of the regional elections on May 17.
During a meeting with the Governing Council of the Villamartín Agricultural Cooperative, the PP representative expressed concern about the delicate moment the sector is experiencing, especially cereal crops, which suffer from a lack of support from the Spanish Government. She criticized the minister's lack of a clear stance on the challenges of the CAP.
“"The management of the CAP at this time is proving very complicated because everything we receive is negative for our sector, with a proposal from the European Union for cuts of 22 percent and in the fishing sector of 60 percent."
These cuts are considered unfeasible by the party, which demands a firm stance from the Spanish Government against these proposals that would harm farmers in Cádiz and Andalusia. It was noted that in the province of Cádiz, 21 percent of the durum wheat cultivation area has been lost, a figure that rises to 37 percent across Andalusia.
The PP representative defended the importance of cereals as a dietary staple and the need for a clear commitment to this sector. The party has pledged to raise awareness about the sector's demands and to present an initiative to support cereal cultivation to both the Andalusian Parliament and the Congress of Deputies, seeking a clear CAP strategy that considers the situation of all farmers.
Finally, the popular candidate thanked the farmers for their work and committed that agriculture would be a priority in their electoral program, with a strong commitment to the primary sector.
