The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has acknowledged, through a parliamentary response, that modifications are being processed for the Tres Caminos Intersection project, a crucial and much-needed development for the Bay of Cádiz. This intersection, connecting the A-4, A-48, and CA-33 between San Fernando and Chiclana, experiences kilometer-long queues annually during the beach season. Its renovation, awarded in 2022 with work commencing in September 2023, has seen a slowdown.
The lack of updated information on the project's progress, which was reportedly at 45% by the end of 2024 and scheduled for completion in March 2027, had raised doubts. The confirmation of these modifications, requested by the Popular Party through their senators and deputies for the province of Cádiz, suggests that the planned execution deadlines may be affected. The PP has demanded clear and detailed information from the Ministry regarding the nature of these changes, their causes, cost increases, and the actual impact on the project's completion.
PP Senator Teresa Ruiz-Sillero has expressed concern, criticizing Minister Óscar Puente for failing to clarify the real situation of the works. She recalled that just two and a half months ago, the Ministry denied in the Senate that construction or weather-related work stoppages were affecting the contractual deadline. The senator announced she will request information on when the modification process began, suggesting potential deliberate withholding of information by the Ministry.
The PP in Cádiz has repeatedly denounced the slow pace of execution and continuous halts in a project considered vital for connectivity in the Bay. They believe the party's demands have been ignored, and the current situation offers "few clear expectations" for an end to the traffic jams at the Tres Caminos Intersection, labeling it "another example of the infrastructure deficit that Cádiz suffers."
