“"After an accident or technical problem, any motorcycle that is not functioning on the track or in the run-off areas must be immediately removed by marshals behind the first line of protection. Machines must not be restarted on the track or in the run-off area. They must be moved to the service road (or a safe and protected location if no service road is available), where assistance can be provided to restart them."

The Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix, taking place in Jerez from April 24 to 26, will enforce new safety regulations from the International Motorcycling Federation to protect riders in the event of a crash.
The fourth round of the MotoGP world championship, which commenced in February 2026 in Thailand, arrives in Jerez with significant modifications to its safety regulations. These measures, implemented by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) at the start of the season, aim to minimize risks for riders in accident situations.
Until last season, riders were permitted to attempt rejoining the track after a fall or if their motorcycle stalled. However, the new regulations prohibit this practice, requiring any bike that cannot be ridden after an incident or technical failure to be immediately removed.
Fans have already witnessed the application of these rules in the three Grand Prix events preceding the race at the Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto. If a rider crashes and their bike stops, they must exit the run-off area and cannot attempt to restart the bike to re-enter the competition.
Consequently, restarting the motorcycle can only occur on the service road or a designated safe location. If the bike successfully restarts, the rider may rejoin the race from that area, thereby ensuring greater safety for all participants.
