A representative from Adelante Andalucía, who is a candidate for the Parliament of Andalusia for the province of Cádiz, has highlighted the “serious situation” faced by residents of Explanada Street. Numerous families live in properties with significant structural damage, compromising their safety and well-being.
Following an inspection of the homes, the deterioration of the properties and the “critical situation” experienced by families have been confirmed. The group has described the situation as a “true housing emergency” that requires an urgent response from the administrations. The mayor of Cádiz has been urged to take immediate action and engage directly with those affected.
“"I ask the mayor to spend five minutes inside one of these homes. If he does, there are only two options: either he acts immediately or he demonstrates that he is not up to the responsibility his position demands."
The formation has also pointed to the previous municipal administration as the origin of this problem, indicating that during that period, a process was promoted which, according to them, forced residents to acquire these homes under the threat of being left without housing alternatives. It has been stated that properties already known to have structural flaws were sold as solutions, using “fear to force the purchase”.
Furthermore, Adelante Andalucía has criticized the inaction of the Cádiz City Council, which owns several unoccupied homes and premises in the same building. This situation, according to the group, obliges the Council to intervene directly. Both the municipal government and the Junta de Andalucía have been accused of fostering dynamics that result in the expulsion of residents from their neighborhoods, a pattern that, they claim, has already been observed in other areas of Cádiz.
Given this situation, Adelante Andalucía has announced that it will bring this matter to the next municipal Plenary Session in May and also to the Andalusian Parliament. Their commitments include establishing a monitoring commission, demanding explanations and concrete measures from the Government team, and highlighting this issue as part of the May 1st events to place it at the center of social debate.
