The flames originated next to a workshop dedicated to aluminum carpentry, in a wooded area located on Magallanes Street, near the Carranza stadium and a few meters from a Repsol service station. According to workers and business owners in the area, a group of families of Romanian origin has been living in an improvised settlement in this location for over a year. Initial hypotheses suggest that the fire may have started in this camp, although the exact causes will need to be determined by the corresponding investigation.
The fire affected part of the aluminum carpentry workshop, requiring a swift intervention from the firefighters. The crews worked diligently to cool down the entire corner of the industrial facility, extinguish the flames, and prevent the fire from spreading to other nearby workshops and companies. For their part, the Local Police proceeded to close access to Magallanes Street and established a security perimeter to ensure the protection of workers and pedestrians.
The incident generated significant expectation among employees of surrounding businesses, many of whom temporarily left their jobs to observe the magnitude of the fire and closely follow the emergency services' actions. Fortunately, there were no personal injuries, although there was significant material damage in the affected area.
The Cádiz Free Trade Zone has highlighted that the fire affected the plot of the former Súper Cádiz in the outer industrial park, owned by the Consortium. The Free Trade Zone has also repeatedly informed the Cádiz City Council about the situation of the homeless people residing in the aforementioned plot, urging intervention to find a solution.
