The Municipal Ordinance for Beaches in Cádiz sets clear restrictions on the use of balls along the coastline. Despite being a common practice, especially among younger people, playing ball is forbidden to prevent risks and disturbances to other users.
The Local Police have already intervened on several occasions, confiscating balls from offenders. This measure serves as a prior warning before a potential financial penalty in case of repeat offenses. Article 29 of the ordinance specifically prohibits ball sports activities outside designated areas.
“"To avoid possible disturbances to other users during the bathing season"
Violation of this rule is considered a minor infraction, which can result in a fine of up to €750. To avoid penalties, ball game enthusiasts must go to the four designated zones: in front of the old cemetery, near the Isecotel building, on Brasil street, and in front of the dolphins building. The permitted hours for these activities are from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
This regulation aims to prevent incidents like the one that occurred last summer on Santa María del Mar Beach, where a brawl among young people playing with a ball led to the arrest of two individuals. The summer of 2024 saw 77 fines issued and over 200 balls confiscated, highlighting the persistence of this practice despite the restrictions.
