The anti-drug operation began last April when agents from the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Cádiz Command and the Provincial Maritime Service seized 43 bales of hashish. The narcotic substance was found in a hidden compartment in the double bottom of the foredeck of a fishing vessel docked in the port of Sanlúcar, which had no crew at the time.
This discovery led to an investigation to identify the alleged perpetrators of the drug smuggling. The operation culminated on May 18th with an exhaustive search of the fishing boat, where the double bottom and the 1,900 kilos of hashish stored within were located. Simultaneously, a house search was carried out in a residence in Jerez.
During the search of the Jerez residence, 24,000 euros in cash, 12 SIM cards, 11 high-end watches, jewelry, a vehicle, and various technological materials and stickers were seized. According to Civil Guard sources, these stickers may have been used to identify the hashish bales.
The operation, involving various Civil Guard units, resulted in the arrest of 6 individuals for the crimes of belonging to a Criminal Organization and drug trafficking. After being brought before the judicial authorities at the Court of Instruction in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, five of the detainees were ordered to be remanded in custody.
