It is a poetry collection written from pain and hope, a chronicle of a process of illness where terms like normo weight, intake diary gain lyrical height to bear witness to the struggle against stigmatized ailments, Eating Disorders.
Ruiz Guerrero's work addresses the complex reality of Eating Disorders (EDs), including anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. Through the figure of a daughter, who acts as an interlocutor for the maternal lyrical self, the poetry collection symbolizes the traumatic experience of numerous adolescents and young people, as well as adults, who face these contemporary illnesses. The author seeks to make visible the social and existential complexity of EDs, moving away from common trivialization.
Cristina Ruiz Guerrero's poetic gaze empathizes with those suffering from these ailments, using a contained tone that dialogues with reality and projects a vision of the future through the chained metaphors of blue hydrangeas. The author, a professor of Spanish Language and Literature, has dedicated forty years to teaching in Andalusian institutes and in Spanish International Sections in France, and has conducted historical gender research to rescue the memory of Spanish women writers.
Since her retirement, Ruiz Guerrero has focused on literary creation, collaborating with the column “Coeficiente de mareas” on Radio Cádiz Cadena Ser. She is a member of CEDRO and the Asociación Colegial de Escritoras y Escritores (Andalusia section). Her literary career includes several awards, such as the National Award for Didactic Materials “Emilia Pardo Bazán” (1992) and the XXX National Poetry Award “Poeta Mario López” (2023) for her poetry collection Velo de flor.
