The beaches of La Victoria and Santa María del Mar are set to receive a total of 40,000 cubic meters of sand. This initiative, announced on April 18 by the City Council, will be carried out by the Coastal Demarcation and aims to mitigate the effects of winter storms, which have caused sand loss and unevenness along the Cádiz coastline.
According to a spokesperson for the City Council, the sand replenishment work is scheduled to commence in mid-May. Machinery will begin arriving next week, supplementing the equipment already in use by the City Council for several weeks to level the sand and improve beach surfaces in preparation for the high season.
The investment from Costas will specifically target the most affected areas of the coastal front. Sand replenishment is a common measure after winter storms, particularly in urban sections with high visitor numbers during the summer months.
“"The replenishment works are expected to take place in mid-May."
This announcement coincides with the beach preseason, launched by the City Council on Palm Sunday and continuing until May 31. During this period, some municipal services have been activated in advance, such as lifeguard services at Santa María del Mar during Holy Week, and at La Caleta and the central module of La Victoria.
Among this year's novelties is the installation of eight new surveillance towers at the Victoria, Santa María, and La Caleta modules. These structures, replacing older deteriorated ones, now feature ramp access to enhance safety and accessibility for rescue personnel. All these actions aim to ensure the Cádiz coastline is in optimal condition for the summer season.
