This international academic event, following previous editions in Cambridge, Vigo, and Basel, will focus on the multidisciplinary study of Gibraltar. The organization is handled by the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters and the Institute of Applied Linguistics of the university in Cádiz.
The choice of Cádiz as the venue for the GIC4 is due to its geographical proximity to the Rock, making it a strategic location to address its cultural, linguistic, and historical peculiarities from an academic perspective. The main objective is to consolidate a meeting point for researchers, academics, and postgraduate students interested in Gibraltar studies.
The conference program will cover various thematic areas. In Linguistics, topics such as Llanito, bilingualism, and language policies will be discussed. Literature will focus on the Gibraltarian literary canon and the visibility of new voices. From the perspectives of Culture and History, aspects such as identity, national construction, border dynamics, and oral traditions will be analyzed.
Over the three days, the event will combine plenary sessions, presentations, and academic debates with the participation of specialists from various international universities and institutions. This structure will allow for the discussion of both consolidated research and new lines of work, enhancing the international projection of this field of study and fostering new scientific collaboration networks.
