The fifth-anniversary gala of Dimove, held at the Ciutat d’Elx Congress Center, served as the setting for this award ceremony. The recognition underscores the commitment of the Cádiz club to diversity and inclusion in professional sports, through initiatives promoted by its Foundation.
A projects manager from the Cádiz CF Foundation accepted the award at an event that brought together various institutional figures, social groups, and entities dedicated to defending the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community in the Valencian Community.
“"This is a stable measure implemented seven years ago."
The award organization explained that the Arrels Award for Activism against LGTBIfobia distinguishes individuals and institutions actively working to eradicate discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. In this edition, in addition to Cádiz CF, media outlets and a sports club were also recognized for their efforts in creating inclusive spaces.
The Cádiz CF Foundation has for years developed various initiatives focused on raising awareness and preventing discriminatory attitudes in football. Among these actions, the implementation of a permanent rainbow point at the stadium during match days stands out, a space dedicated to support and assistance in potential situations of LGTBIfobia.
“"It is essential to act in grassroots categories and formative sports environments, where less visible situations of discrimination can occur."
The president of the organizing association, Dimove, highlighted the importance of maintaining associative work in the face of increasing hate speech, thanking sports entities like Cádiz CF for their involvement. This award adds to other distinctions received by the Cádiz CF Foundation in the field of inclusion and diversity, including the “LGTBIfobia-free Space” seal granted by the Junta de Andalucía.
