The situation for Cádiz CF is critical, with the team in the relegation zone and showing no signs of a turnaround that would allow them to maintain their position in the silver category. A string of defeats has raised all alarms, and their stay in Segunda División hangs by a thread with six matchdays remaining.
Against this adverse sporting backdrop, the club is also managing other internal conflicts. One of the most notable is the growing distance between the club and winger Javier Ontiveros, whose season ended prematurely after undergoing surgery on his left heel. This injury has hampered his performance, as he participated in only 15 league matches, accumulating less than 650 minutes of play, and scoring just one goal.
The relationship between the player and the club has been strained throughout the campaign. In late January, then-coach Gaizka Garitano publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the player's performance. Days later, the club's president, Manuel Vizcaíno, voiced his disappointment, urging the player to "step up"—a step he claimed was not being taken.
“"I am disappointed with Ontiveros; he needs to step up, and he is not doing it."
The latest episode in this disagreement occurred with the player's surgical intervention. While Ontiveros announced his operation via his social media, Cádiz CF maintained absolute silence on its official channels, unlike with other players such as Bojan Kovacevic and Iuri Tabatadze, whose operations were reported by the club. This silence suggests that, despite being under contract until June 2028, both parties appear to be going their separate ways, a situation that could accelerate if the team is relegated to Primera Federación.
