The Cádiz Book Fair, held at the Baluarte de la Candelaria, reaches its fifth edition with a day full of literary and cultural activities.

The program for June 29th at the Cádiz Book Fair will highlight the awarding of the fifth edition of the FLC Awards and the presence of writer Gustavo Martín Garzo. The event, running until July 5th, will offer a blend of literature, essays, noir fiction, children's activities, and cultural events open to the public at the iconic Baluarte de la Candelaria.
The day will commence at 10:00 AM with the free guided tour ‘Las Ausentes. Mujeres en el Carnaval de Cádiz’ (The Absent Ones. Women in Cádiz Carnival), departing from calle Barrocal. Subsequently, at 11:00 AM, the Espacio Pilar Paz Pasamar will host the presentation of the fifth edition of the FLC Awards 2026. These accolades recognize outstanding careers in the literary field, honoring this edition Felipe Benítez Reyes, the bookstore Plastilina, the publisher Sílex, the library of the University of Cádiz (UCA), and Radio Cádiz Cadena SER. The jury, comprising representatives from reader associations and cultural and academic institutions, selected the awardees who will receive an engraving by artist Carmen Bustamante.
At the same hour, 11:00 AM, the Sala Josela Maturana will host a book club discussion from the Cádiz College of Physicians on the work ‘Han cantado bingo’ by Lana Corujo. Midday will bring the colloquium ‘El paisaje cromático de Cádiz’ (The Chromatic Landscape of Cádiz) at 12:00 PM in the Sala José Luis Cano, featuring José María Esteban and Paula Vilches, focusing on the city's architecture. Simultaneously, the program ‘Más de Uno’ from Onda Cero will broadcast live from the fairgrounds, while the Espacio Eduardo Cruz Acillona will host an open chess match with the Chess Club of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.
The afternoon session will resume at 7:00 PM with a live broadcast of ‘Marca Verano’ from Radio Marca from the Sala José Manuel Caballero Bonald. At 7:30 PM, illustrator María Gómez will lead the workshop ‘Apunta y dispara’ (Aim and Shoot) in the Sala José Luis Cano, sharing her professional experience. At the Espacio Pilar Paz Pasamar, also at 7:30 PM, an event dedicated to noir fiction will feature presentations of titles such as ‘El balanceo del alacrán’ by Eduardo Fernán-López, ‘Manual para construir un infierno’ by Fernando Repiso, and ‘El hambre del pelícano’ by Blanca Cabañas.
From 8:00 PM onwards, the program will include participation from Poetas Incógnitas and the presentation of the children's book ‘Alabí Alabá. Pequeña historia ilustrada del Cádiz C.F.’ (Alabí Alabá. Little Illustrated History of Cádiz C.F.), by Aarón Arnán and Félix García, aimed at children aged 3 to 11, in the Sala José Manuel Caballero Bonald. In parallel, at the Sala Josela Maturana, the essay ‘Postmenopausia’ by Adela Muñoz will be presented, accompanied by Carmen Segundo.
The final stretch of the day will feature two key presentations: at 9:00 PM in the Sala Josela Maturana, José Manuel García Gil will present ‘La imagen del atardecer imperfecto. El suicidio en la obra de Roberto Bolaño’ (The Image of the Imperfect Sunset. Suicide in the Work of Roberto Bolaño), with Bruno Montané and Nieves Vázquez. At 9:30 PM, in the Espacio Pilar Paz Pasamar, writer Gustavo Martín Garzo will present his essay ‘Un paraíso de escombros’ (A Paradise of Rubble) alongside Ester Trigo. The fair will conclude at 10:30 PM with the traditional K-Pop Night and urban dances, presented by the Academia Serendipia.
Throughout the day, various authors will be signing books at the stalls, including Pilar Alda, Fermín Aparicio, Belén Pérez Daza, Jessica Domínguez de Porres, Israel Díaz Reinado, José Antonio Durán, Sebastián G. Sancho, Irene Maza, Ángel G. Osuna, and Alicia Domínguez. The fair will remain open until July 5th, with hours from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
