The arrival of good weather in Cádiz has reignited concerns about the condition of urban buses. Last summer, the service was plagued by numerous breakdowns and continuous failures in the air conditioning system, causing significant discomfort to passengers during high-temperature days.
In response to this situation, the workers' committee of Tranvía de Cádiz a San Fernando y Carraca sent a letter in March to both the concessionaire company and the Cádiz City Council. The document requested the adoption of urgent measures to ensure the proper functioning of climate control systems across the entire fleet of vehicles.
“"These are not isolated incidents, but a structural problem that requires planning, investment, and real preventive maintenance, not improvised actions when temperatures are already extreme."
Worker representatives have recalled that complaints about air conditioning deficiencies were constant and widespread during the previous summer, negatively impacting the public service's image and the comfort of citizens relying on urban transport. They have also pointed out that these deficiencies not only harm users but also drivers, who perform their work in very demanding thermal conditions, with the consequent risk to their health and safety.
The committee considers it unacceptable for this situation to recur, especially since some buses are over 25 years old, underscoring the need for structural intervention rather than just temporary solutions.
