The Cádiz-based club is undergoing restructuring for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign, with a sporting project set to be officially unveiled in early July. Following the departure of nine players, new signings are expected, along with the return of players who were on loan.
One of the returning players is Borja Vázquez. His loan spell at Ponferradina, a prominent team in the Primera Federación, was intended for the homegrown talent to gain experience and potentially earn a spot in the first team. The forward largely succeeded, becoming a key player for the León-based side, which reached the promotion playoff final.
Despite not achieving promotion after losing the final against Celta Fortuna, Vázquez returns to the Cádiz entity with a record of 43 official matches, 35 starts, accumulating 3,000 minutes on the field. He scored four goals and provided as many assists, establishing himself as one of the attacking players with the most playing time.
At 21 years old and with a contract until 2029, the Jerez-born player is ready to earn a place in the first team. He could be one of the new faces in the squad, although the final decision will rest with coach Imanol Idiakez, who will assess numerous players during preseason.
Among the five players returning from loan this July, Vázquez is the one who, in principle, has the best chance of staying and making the leap to professional football. He has already debuted with the senior team in Primera División and Segunda, and his next challenge is to secure a spot among the chosen players, either with a professional license or as part of the reserve team due to being under 23.
