The political group has announced it will present a motion at the ordinary May Plenary session to demand urgent action due to the deterioration affecting buildings located at numbers 1 and 3 of Explanada street and number 1 of Dársena street. According to the municipal group, the properties exhibit cracks, subsidences, and propped-up dwellings, a situation that has worsened in recent months and poses a risk to the safety of the 62 residents.
The spokesperson for AIG, David de la Cruz, described the situation as families living “surrounded by cracks, subsidences, and props” and demanded a response from the council. The motion will propose that the governing team act to guarantee structural safety and protect the affected individuals.
The coalition recalls that these homes once belonged to Procasa, the municipal housing company, and that during the term of the then-mayor Teófila Martínez, they were sold to residents at reduced prices, without, according to AIG, complete information being provided about the existing structural problems.
Furthermore, reference has been made to the judicial closure and sealing of three homes on Explanada street in early May. According to AIG's version, the measure was taken without prior notice to the tenants and, according to residents, prevented media access to the buildings. The municipal group points out that the City Council still maintains six vacant apartments and two commercial spaces in the complex, indicating direct room for action.
The initiative includes two specific proposals: urging the governing team to intervene immediately to assess and ensure the stability of the properties, and to create a specific monitoring commission with neighborhood representation and participation from all municipal groups.
The situation of these homes is not new and has already been debated in previous Plenary sessions. AIG recalls that the current governing team committed to seeking solutions for the affected families, and the upcoming May Plenary will serve to ascertain the position of the other municipal groups.
