El Puerto de Santa María, known as the City of a Hundred Palaces, invites visitors to discover the historical, architectural, and human richness of its courtyards. One of the most special ways to visit them is by the light of 'mariposas', small bowls of water and oil with a floating wick that create a warm and intimate atmosphere.
This Monday, August 24th, and Tuesday, August 25th, from 9:00 PM until midnight, thirteen courtyards in El Puerto will be open freely and for free. This soft and natural illumination highlights the architecture, details, and vegetation of these heritage gems.
The initiative, now in its fifth edition, is organized by the Cultural Association Friends of the El Puerto Courtyards, with the collaboration of the City Council of El Puerto de Santa María and the Provincial Council of Cádiz.
Spaces full of history, architecture, and tradition that will once again be illuminated with this ancestral technique.
The program includes various performances: on Monday the 24th at the Castillo de San Marcos, there will be flamenco with Candela Cruz, while the Palacio de Araníbar will host a poetry recital. The courtyard at Dr. Muñoz Seca 17 will feature 'Sound Bath' with Tibetan bowls, and at Larga 70, the Araceli Academy will perform. The Sala Museo Hospitalito will host ballroom dancing, the courtyard at Rueda 9 a saxophone performance, and the Hotel Soho Boutique Duques de Medinaceli, piano.
On Tuesday the 25th, the Castillo de San Marcos and the Palacio de Araníbar will repeat their flamenco and poetry recital performances, respectively. The Sala Museo Hospitalito will also feature flamenco from the Araceli Academy. The courtyard at Zarza 9 will offer a keyboard performance, and the courtyards at Rueda 9 and the Hotel Soho Boutique Duques de Medinaceli will again feature saxophone and piano.
