On April 27, the Navy's Logistics Support Headquarters awarded the contract for the drafting of the project for new accommodation barracks at the Spanish Navy's Non-Commissioned Officer School (ESUBO) in San Fernando. This work is set to become one of the most significant investments the Navy will undertake in its local facilities.
The project's drafting has been entrusted to the architecture firm Cor Architecture + Design, based in Alicante, for an amount of 190,829.10 euros. The established period for the execution of this contract is seven months, with a deadline set for December 31, 2026.
The initial tender for the project, launched in October, amounted to 378,928.44 euros, meaning the final award was made for almost 190,000 euros below the maximum budget. A total of 21 bids were submitted during the process.
“"Currently, Esubo can only accommodate 276 students, and with habitability and service standards considered obsolete."
The new facilities are intended to replace the current barracks, known as 'Almirante Diego Brochero', which has become obsolete due to its age. The Navy justifies this construction by the need to offer dignified infrastructures that allow students to carry out their activities in optimal teaching conditions.
The project foresees the construction of barracks with capacity for at least 376 students, including spaces for brigade commanders, services, and necessary study facilities. Additionally, the building will feature a general lounge, a cafeteria area (with potential for canteen or vending configuration), and a student library. The current kitchen, pantry, student dining room, staff dining room, and cafeteria-canteen facilities will also be replaced. With the addition of 130 staff members (officers, non-commissioned officers, and sailors), the building will be dimensioned to serve a total of 500 people.
