The San Fernando City Council has discussed with the Navy the programming and the role the city will play in the celebration of the Juan Sebastián de Elcano school ship's centenary. The institutional meeting included Admiral Gonzalo Sanz Alisedo, second chief of the Navy's General Staff and president of the centenary commission, along with other naval high commands and the Councilor for Culture, Pepa Pacheco.
The importance of San Fernando in this event was highlighted, not only due to the ship's maintenance work at the island shipyard but also because of the city's historical ties with the Navy. The mayor emphasized the municipal commitment to enhance the naval and historical heritage and bring Elcano's figure closer to the citizens, recalling the space dedicated to the ship in La Magdalena park.
“"The mayor highlighted the City Council's firm commitment to contribute to the success of this event, valuing the city's naval and historical heritage and bringing Elcano's figure closer to all citizens."
Patricia Cavada expressed gratitude for the collaboration between administrations and institutions to ensure the success of the commemoration, thereby projecting San Fernando's relevance as a city linked to the Navy.
