The blaze, which originated at number 29 Chanca street, was brought under control by personnel from the Cádiz Provincial Firefighters Consortium, with the collaboration of officers from the Local Police and the National Police. Although there were no personal injuries, the street remained closed to traffic and a surveillance team was deployed.
The property, which was abandoned and occupied, had experienced fires previously. Ownership of the building changed approximately two years ago. The City Council of El Puerto has announced that once technicians and firefighters confirm safety conditions, the building will be subsidiarily boarded up to prevent further access and similar incidents.
The situation has caused concern among residents due to the recurrence of incidents in the same building, which had led to complaints about structural and fire risks. The City Council has informed that owners of adjacent properties affected by smoke or fire can request a police report to process insurance claims.
The causes of the fire are currently unknown, and no evacuations from nearby buildings have been reported beyond preventive measures on the public road. Police surveillance will continue in the area as long as the risk persists.
