The debate teams from Liceo de San Fernando, comprising students from 3rd and 4th year of ESO and 1st year of Bachillerato, actively participated in the II Torneo LANDE Almedina. This event, part of the Andalusian School Debate League, took place in the city of Córdoba and addressed the complex question of whether social media is the main factor in the mental deterioration of youth.
Although one of the teams reached the quarter-finals and the other narrowly missed the final phase, both groups' performances were described as almost perfect. This achievement allowed them to secure three significant individual recognitions, solidifying the Liceo's reputation in the field of debate.
“"The name of Liceo is already known in the world of debate, and this was recognized at the tournament by awarding the title of Best Introducer to a student, highly applauded by their fellow speakers at the event; Best Counter-refuter to another student, who captivated the judges with their magnificent oratory; and a third student as Best Concluder, who managed to provide the perfect closing statement in each round for their team's positions."
The debate season for the educational center is drawing to a close, but there are still important commitments ahead. Students are preparing for the III Torneo Lande Arboleda, to be held in Seville on May 15 and 16, and the Final Phase of the Andalusian Debate League (LANDE) on June 12, which the Liceo itself will host. Furthermore, a group of 2nd year Bachillerato students has already qualified for the National Debate League Final, scheduled for September at the Senate in Madrid, organized by the Cánovas Foundation.
