This decision, made in an extraordinary and urgent Plenary Session, culminates an administrative process initiated months ago. The management, which was previously indirect, will now be directly assumed through the municipal company Grupo Energético de Puerto Real, S.A. (GEN), a wholly public-owned entity.
“"Today Puerto Real wins: public management has known how to protect our Nurseries."
The mayor has positively assessed this progress, emphasizing that the change is not only administrative but a "declaration of principles" that transforms early childhood education (0-3 years) into a direct commitment of the City Council. By eliminating the industrial profit of external companies, resources will be fully allocated to improving the service and the well-being of minors, allowing for greater responsiveness to family needs.
The collective nature of the achievement has been highlighted, noting that it is a "victory for the parties that, with their vote, made it possible, and for the citizens of Puerto Real," referring to the consensus reached and the existing social demand. The fundamental role of the nursery staff has also been acknowledged, whose professionalism and commitment have been key throughout the process.
The government team has emphasized the work of the municipal areas involved (Education, Secretariat, and Intervention) and has championed the role of GEN as a strategic tool for the City Council, proving to be the "necessary muscle for the City Council to be effective and brave in public management."
The Consistory has reminded that municipal nurseries fulfill educational, reconciliation, and assistance functions. With this step, Puerto Real reinforces its commitment to a public management model that prioritizes the general interest, seeking to "protect more" and ensure that childcare is based on common well-being and not on economic criteria.
