The exhibition, promoted by the Amare LGTBI Association, was presented by the councilwoman for Feminisms-LGTBI+ of the Puerto Real City Council. This traveling exhibition, which has already visited several locations, arrives in the city to offer an enriching perspective on the role of lesbian women throughout history.
The initiative focuses on 17 biographical portraits that explore the lives and contributions of women who have left a significant mark in social, political, and cultural spheres. Among the featured figures are personalities such as the lawyer and politician Victoria Kent, Queen Christina of Sweden, the singer-songwriter Chavela Vargas, and the poets Gabriela Mistral and Gloria Fuertes.
“"It is essential to continue creating spaces for recognition and visibility for lesbian women throughout history."
The main objective of Lesbians in History is to dismantle stigmas and highlight the essential contributions of these women, valuing their struggle against the prejudices and social barriers of their time. The exhibition invites reflection and social recognition, recovering silenced stories and promoting a more inclusive vision of the past.
The exhibition, which collaborates with the Sáficas de Cádiz association, is part of the municipal awareness and visibility actions regarding equality and LGTBI+ rights. It will be open to the public at the Luis Baltasar Pacheco Villalba Municipal Library in Puerto Real from April 24 to May 15, during morning and afternoon hours.
