A spokesperson for the PSOE of Cádiz, during a visit to Puerto Real Hospital, described the center's situation as an "emergency" due to the "dismantling, collapse, and saturation" allegedly caused by the regional government's management. The socialist party highlighted the failure to deliver vital infrastructure, specifically pointing to the halted construction of a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“"More than a year ago, they came here to announce with great fanfare, with slogans and photographs, the construction of a new ICU. Today, that work is paralyzed and abandoned. Many photos, but zero realities for a hospital that is at its limit."
The opposition party interprets this situation not as a management error, but as a deliberate plan to privatize healthcare services and push citizens towards co-payment. They expressed concern about the creation of "first-class citizens" with access to private insurance and "second-class citizens," such as the working class, who are left unprotected.
In response to these issues, the PSOE has proposed an alternative that includes a shock plan to eliminate waiting lists through legislation, guaranteeing an end to waiting times under legal protection. Additionally, they propose a record investment of an extra 3 billion euros annually for the public system and the hiring of 18,000 healthcare professionals to alleviate existing overloads.
Responding to recent statements about a new hospital in Cádiz, the socialist spokesperson questioned the credibility of such announcements, arguing that Primary Care has been dismantled, contributing to the collapse of hospitals. They dismissed these promises as "electoral fantasy" given the alleged lack of real investment. A councilor from Puerto Real thanked the provincial candidacy for their visit, emphasizing the priority of healthcare for the municipality and the fight to defend public services.
Finally, the PSOE has called on "progressives in the province" to turn out en masse to the polls on May 17, stressing that voting is the only tool to recover dignified and quality healthcare.
