Seprona agents of the Civil Guard, based in El Puerto, observed two individuals engaged in professional fishing activities with small-scale gear. After identifying the individuals and requesting their licenses, they stated they lacked the necessary permits for the activity. Consequently, formal administrative complaints were filed for violations of fishing regulations.
The illegally caught seafood and the gear used were seized. The catches were transferred to the 'El Toruño' Marine Species Research and Cultivation Center for destruction, as they could not be reintroduced into the marine environment.
“"This police action responds to the demands of various groups of aquaculturists and shellfish farmers in the area, whose livelihoods are affected by the illegal activities of poachers and furtive fishermen."
Fishing and aquaculture activities are subject to a legal system of regulation and health control. Harvesting seafood outside the law jeopardizes its sustainable development and consumer health. Authorities aim to raise awareness among residents and visitors about the importance of this professional activity, which supports numerous families.
