The archaeological site Nueva Gadeira is consolidating itself as a significant cultural resource in Chiclana. Since its opening in late 2023, it has seen a steady increase in visitor numbers, including locals, people from other parts of Andalusia and Spain, and a gradual rise in foreign visitors.
Last July was its most successful month to date, with a total of 2,211 people. Visitors from Chiclana (1,190) were prominent, followed by those from Madrid (162), Castilla y León (59), Aragón (37), and Catalonia (33). Over a hundred visitors from 14 different nationalities also visited the site.
By the end of July, the total number of visitors to Nueva Gadeira since its opening has surpassed 32,000 people. The interpretation center, located at the Cerro del Castillo, houses remains of a Phoenician settlement nearly 3,000 years old, showcasing its millennial origins through audiovisual technology and interactive screens.
Access to the center is free. During the summer, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and on Thursdays and Fridays in the afternoon from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Free guided tours can be arranged by appointment.
In addition to visits, free activities such as workshops, exhibitions, presentations, concerts, and theatrical performances are regularly held. For the remainder of the summer, a children's night archaeology workshop is scheduled for Friday, August 14th, and an animated visit titled ‘Ave Nueva Gadeira, here I am again’ on Friday, September 4th. Prior reservation is required to participate.
