The city of Chiclana has had a special on-call pharmacy service this summer that has functioned satisfactorily. Mayor José María Román highlighted the positive reception of this initiative and announced that, for next year, plans are underway to maintain two on-call pharmacies during the night, located in different areas to improve citizen coverage.
Román thanked the College of Pharmacists for their management and adaptation to the needs of Chiclana, especially during the summer population increase. The mayor noted that visitors also positively value the availability of this service, which complements the town's offerings.
For his part, the president of the College of Pharmacists, Alberto Virués, expressed his gratitude for the consistent open line of communication with the City Council. Virués recalled the evolution of the number of pharmacies in the city, which has gone from two in the 19th century to the current 29, with a projection to reach 31 next year, thus adapting to demographic growth.
This summer, a service enhancement was implemented, particularly in the beach area, ensuring at least one pharmacy open until 00:00. According to Virués, this measure has reduced unnecessary travel and improved citizen care.
Looking ahead to next year, new developments are announced to optimize services in a city with a large area and fluctuating population. More pharmacy rotations are planned for winter in the urban center and a specific rotation for summer, always seeking a satisfactory solution for the population. The college president emphasized the role of pharmacies as the first point of entry into the healthcare system and their supportive function within the neighborhood.
