The Santa Teresa Salt Pan, located near the settlement of Sancti Petri in Chiclana, is this weekend the venue for the first Cheese Fair. This event, organized by the European Cheese Route Association, aims to be a meeting point for cheese lovers, producers, and professionals, highlighting local gastronomy and sustainable tourism.
Over three days, the fair will offer an extensive program including direct sales of cheeses from various Spanish regions, guided tastings, pairings with wines, vermouths, and craft beers, 'showcooking', and guided tours of the salt marshes. Among the varieties present will be cheeses such as Payoya goat cheese, Mahón-Menorca, Torta del Casar, Zamorano Cheese, and San Simón da Costa, among other specialties.
The choice of the Santa Teresa Salt Pan underscores the territorial character of the event. This enclave, restored after years of neglect, is an example of the valorization of the salt heritage of the Bay of Cadiz, combining artisanal salt production, environmental conservation, gastronomy, and nature tourism. The salt pan's restaurant holds a Repsol Guide 2025 and 2026 recommendation.
All activities are free of charge, although pre-registration is required at the information point set up by the organization during the fair. The event aims to establish itself as one of the major gastronomic proposals of the summer in the province of Cadiz, uniting cheese, salt, and wine in a unique natural setting.
