The Jaén City Council has welcomed three new local police officers who join active service today. With these new additions, the Jaén Local Police force now comprises nearly 170 officers engaged in various duties, approaching the recommended ratio of 200 officers for a city of its size.
Mayor Julio Millán, alongside the Chief Superintendent of the Local Police, Luis Ojeda, and Superintendent Gustavo Vega, presided over the swearing-in ceremony. The three new officers, one woman and two men (Nuria, Sergio, and Rafael), were already active officers and are now joining the Jaén force after successfully passing a new competitive examination through the open recruitment route. This allows them to be immediately active without requiring further preparation at the Iespa.
Soon, another 16 new officers will undergo training at the Iespa before joining the Jaén force, which will help improve the officer-to-inhabitant ratio. The council has highlighted the support provided to the force during recent mandates, including the acquisition of new equipment, resources, and vehicles.
Millán welcomed the new officers and acknowledged the presence of their families. He emphasized their immediate integration into the city's service, representing its image, and reminded them of the professionalism and human quality of their colleagues and superiors at the Jaén Headquarters.
The Jaén Local Police force recorded over 13,200 acts of surveillance and management last year, including major events such as fairs and sporting competitions like the San Antón race, which presents significant organizational and logistical challenges with safety as a top priority.
Millán recalled that increases in the Local Police staff have consistently occurred during his tenure as mayor, a period that also saw the renewal of their vehicle fleet, improvements in working conditions, and training, such as shooting practices.
