The 42nd Torredonjimeno Classic, held this Sunday, proved to be one of the most thrilling events of the season for the Copa de España Élite - Sub23. The day was characterized by intense heat and a challenging 163-kilometer route that included demanding climbs such as the Puerto de Locubín and the Alto de Valdepeñas.
Throughout the race, numerous attacks and strategic moves were made by the teams, though none of these attempts managed to definitively break up the main group. Ultimately, the victory was decided in a mass sprint, where the Caja Rural-Alea cyclist demonstrated superior speed.
“"I don't know if it was because it was the first hot day or what, but many people were struggling. We managed to turn things around, and thanks to my teammates who launched me, I was able to contest the sprint and win. It was a very tough day; I suffered all day. I had measured the finish from previous years; people tend to get nervous and launch the sprint too early, and I took advantage of that. I pushed at the last moment and took the victory."
With this victory, the cyclist not only claimed triumph in Torredonjimeno but also positioned himself as the new leader of the Copa de España Élite - Sub23, taking over from his teammate. The podium of the classic was completed by two other prominent competitors.
