The organization has issued an urgent appeal via social media, requesting volunteer assistance for cleanup and recovery efforts. Despite the extent of the disaster, the shelter has confirmed that both staff and the hundreds of animals it houses are in good condition.
“"First and foremost, we want to inform you that all the dogs and all the people at the shelter are well; no one has suffered any harm."
The incident occurred around 6:00 PM, when over 50 cubic meters of water fell in a short 20-minute period. This volume caused the nearby stream to overflow, leaving the facilities completely submerged. Fortunately, the swift response from citizens and local authorities allowed the dogs to spend the night in a “decent” space.
Material damages are considerable, with outdoor patios and perimeter walls of the shelter destroyed. However, the shelter has assured that it has food for the first few days post-disaster, ensuring basic care for the animals. Following the circulation of images on social media, they have emphasized a message of calm, confirming that “the animals are safe.”
The public response has been overwhelming, with numerous expressions of support and collaboration. The shelter has expressed its gratitude for the assistance received, which has allowed for rapid progress in initial cleanup tasks. For those wishing to contribute remotely, the association has provided a bank account number (ES33 3067 0001 3211 4749 3322) and a link to the Teaming platform, where a symbolic contribution of one euro per month can be made.
