The XII Ciudad de Montoro Popular Night Race, organized by the Montoro Athletics Club and the City Council, will take place this Saturday, June 13th. The event aims to provide an experience focused on enjoying the route through one of Andalusia's most beautiful historic centers, avoiding overcrowding.
With just days to go, anticipation is high and registrations have surged, bringing the race close to its maximum capacity. The main 10-kilometer route promises a journey back in time, crossing the historic Puente Mayor, built in 1498, and skirting the Guadalquivir Meander, a declared Natural Monument. Runners will pass through the characteristic reddish molinaza stone architecture, going through the emblematic Plaza del Charco, the area of the Iglesia del Carmen, and the streets El Santo and Cervantes, culminating in the Plaza de España. The urban route is well-maintained and illuminated to ensure safety and excellent visibility.
The competition will feature a high level of athletic performance, notably with the participation of Cordoban athlete Jesús Alguacil, considered the strong favorite. His presence guarantees an exciting race pace that will energize the local spectators.
As a new feature, the children's races will start earlier at 8:30 PM in the Plano de la Feria, with adapted distances to promote grassroots sports. The races for younger participants will range from 100 meters to 2,000 meters for the cadet category. The main race will begin at 10:00 PM, with the finish line closing at 11:30 PM.
The organization maintains its commitment to excellence, offering electronic timing with chips, individual insurance, and three aid stations along the route. Upon finishing, runners will enjoy a recovery zone with liquid refreshments and a 100% chicken burger to refuel in a festive atmosphere of camaraderie.
