This phenomenon, caused by the arrival of particles from the Sahara, is relatively common in the area due to its proximity to the African desert. However, on this occasion, the concentration has been notably higher, affecting the quality of the snow and its usual coloration.
The presence of this dust could accelerate snowmelt in the coming weeks if no new snowfall occurs. Adverse weather conditions, including muddy showers and strong wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour, have forced the resort to delay the opening of its facilities.
Initially, the opening was postponed until 10:00 AM, but the persistence of the wind led Cetursa to extend the delay until 11:00 AM, as announced by the company on its official 'X' social media account. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has recorded these intense wind gusts.
In situations like this, the Granadan winter resort offers the possibility of refunding 'forfaits', both at the User Service Center and through its website for online purchases.
