Road safety improvement works on the A-348 highway, between kilometers 116 and 118 in the municipality of Huécija, are progressing as planned. The territorial delegate for Fomento, Articulación del Territorio y Vivienda of the Junta de Andalucía in Almería, Dolores Martínez, accompanied by the mayor of Huécija, Ana María Vizcaíno, visited the ongoing section.
Dolores Martínez highlighted that the action seeks to improve circulation conditions and road safety at a point with various accesses and traffic movements. "The adopted solution will help eliminate maneuvers that posed a risk to road users and will facilitate a safer connection with the different existing accesses in the area," stated the delegate.
The works include the construction of a grade-separated intersection to avoid left turns on the carriageway, which are currently prohibited. This intervention will improve accessibility to the "Almería-Sur" Road Conservation Center, the service road, industrial warehouses, and the rural access road to Huécija.
Currently, the works show 58% completion. The main structure of the underpass, a prefabricated concrete frame, has already been installed. Efforts are now focused on the abutments and wing walls, prior to earth filling and the restoration of traffic to the definitive route, which is currently temporarily diverted.
The project also includes the construction of ditches, drainage works, paving, and the installation of horizontal and vertical signage, as well as beacons and other road safety elements.
