The airline Wizzair will offer a total of 70,000 seats annually on this new route, which will initially feature three weekly frequencies: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The flight will be operated by an Airbus A321neo with a capacity for 239 passengers and an estimated duration of three and a half to four hours.
This initiative stems from a strategic alliance between the Provincial Council of Almería and the City Councils of Almería and Roquetas de Mar, aiming to enhance and promote the Almería destination in new international markets. The joint campaign has a budget of €500,000.
The President of the Provincial Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, highlighted that this alliance allows them to "combat seasonality and continue boosting tourism." The Mayoress of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, emphasized the importance of promoting the destination "where the traveler is deciding," while the Councilor for Tourism of Roquetas de Mar, Amalia López Yélamos, stressed the need to improve international connections.
The Consul General of Romania in Spain, Ion Mihai Stirbu, noted the flight's significance, as Almería and Roquetas host the largest and most integrated Romanian community in Andalusia. The campaign aims to attract a new type of traveler motivated by leisure, climate, and family tourism.
The funding for the agreement is distributed as follows: the Provincial Council of Almería contributes €200,000, and the City Councils of Almería and Roquetas de Mar each contribute €150,000. The Provincial Council managed the tender and award procedure for the promotion campaign.
