The province of Almería witnessed a striking meteorological contrast this Tuesday. While heat continues to dominate much of the territory, with temperatures around 30-32 degrees Celsius in the capital and exceeding 33 degrees inland, an intense, highly localized downpour occurred in the Sierra de los Filabres.
The heavy rain particularly affected the road leading to Bacares, leaving the surface completely soaked and creating a dense curtain of water, as captured in footage from the event. Data from the AMETSE meteorological network confirms precipitation in the area, with 3.3 liters per square meter recorded at the Bacares station, while other stations in the province registered no rainfall.
This phenomenon highlights the typically summer-like and highly localized nature of storms in the region. Within just a few kilometers, weather conditions can change dramatically, shifting from a hot and dry environment to concentrated cloudiness and intense precipitation in mountainous areas.
The difference is stark when comparing records: while Bacares accumulated rain, locations like Almería capital, Huércal de Almería, or stations in the Poniente region maintained high temperatures without significant rainfall. This episode underscores how Almería's topography can create significant meteorological differences between relatively close areas, favoring the occurrence of isolated storms due to the combination of daytime heating and instability in the mountains.
