The astronomical phenomenon, described as "beastly" by witnesses and social media users, was captured by the cameras of the Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory. The images show how a large luminous ball interrupted the pre-dawn darkness, also being recorded from Granada, Seville, and Cádiz.
The Meteorite and Fireball Research Network and the astronomy specialized account Galileo de Almería shared the striking images on social media, highlighting the magnitude of the event. "Beastly fireball today that lit up the whole sierra 😍", commented one user.
These types of events, while spectacular, are not entirely unusual. The Calar Alto Observatory's records show similar phenomena; just a few weeks ago, on April 23, a bright Lyrids meteor was detected traveling at a speed of 172,000 kilometers per hour, also monitored by the SMART Project at the Almería observatory.
