Sorbas Becomes International Music Stage

The Sorbas International Music Festival will gather 50 musicians from 14 countries from July 27 to August 4, bringing music to various locations across the province.

The municipality of Sorbas, in Almería, will transform from July 27 to August 4 into a vibrant international music stage with the celebration of the Sorbas International Music Festival (FIMSAL). The event will bring together 50 musicians from 14 countries, offering recitals, live piano cinema, and concerts in squares, churches, and museums across the province.

For nine days, Sorbas and other municipalities such as Lucainena de las Torres, Tabernas, Benizalón, and the provincial capital, Almería, will be the epicenter of a musical program organized by the Cultural Association ProMúsica Almería (APMA), Clamo Music, and the Green Music Foundation of Hong Kong, with the support of local city councils and the Provincial Council. The festival aims to bring music out of traditional venues to reach audiences in diverse locations.
This year's edition will kick off on July 27 in Sorbas with an official presentation at the City Hall and a cinema night with live piano accompaniment at Paseo Colesterol. The program will continue with "Musical Appetizers" at the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación in Tabernas, a conference on "Music for All" in Sorbas, and a baroque concert at the Church of Santa María.
The festival will feature themed nights, including one inspired by the western genre at the Saloon of Oasys MiniHollywood, and a "Concert in the Clouds" at the Sanctuary of Virgen de la Cabeza in Monteagud. Additionally, gala concerts will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism (MUREC) and the Auditorium of Almería, alongside family concerts and film screenings with live piano accompaniment in Lucainena de las Torres.
The musical agenda will be complemented by violin and piano recitals at the Museum of Almería, concerts with Classijazz in the Plaza de la Constitución of Sorbas, and the festival's closing on August 4 at the Municipal Theater of Sorbas. The repertoire will range from classical, baroque, and symphonic music to jazz and modern music proposals, performed by international students and professors.
Among the participating musicians and educators are Simon Smith, Savva Fatkulin, Tim Chen, Alina Voicu, Miguel Baró, Kristina Chalmovská, Andrea Pino, and Manos Kitsikopoulos, affiliated with conservatories and projects in Europe and Asia. The artistic direction is led by the Almería-born violinist Juan Andrés Carmona Valdivia and pianist José María Casanova Ródenas.
