The Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting a seven-year prison sentence for the defendant, who is accused of a crime against the rights of foreign citizens. According to the prosecution's indictment, the accused organized clandestine immigration from African coasts with the intention of illicitly enriching himself, charging passengers up to 4,000 euros for the trip.
The journey, which began in the early hours of September 10, 2025, took place in a six-meter inflatable boat with an outboard motor. A total of 18 occupants, including the accused, were on board, exceeding the vessel's capacity. The prosecution asserts that the defendant lacked the required technical training and expertise for high-seas navigation, and that the voyage was conducted without navigation systems or safety equipment.
Adverse weather conditions and a lack of fuel caused the dinghy to drift, putting the lives of those on board in serious danger. They were rescued on September 12, 2025, by the 'Salvamar Spica' vessel of Maritime Rescue, approximately 12.22 kilometers off the coast of Almería. The accused has been in provisional detention since September 14, 2025.
